The event which took place at the Ayalolo Cluster of Schools on Friday June 7, 2019 in Accra saw 20 selected pupils representing each school planting over 100 fruit trees.
The project established on behalf of The Association of Spouses of Heads of Missions in Accra (ASOHOM), sponsored by the Australian High Commission. The program themed “The Good Seed” was organised by GreenWay international foundation.

The tree planting exercise was led by the H.E. Andrews Barnes the Australian High Commissioner together with his lovely family and pupils of Ayalolo cluster of schools as well as other dignitaries.
In an interview the Executive Director of the Foundation, Michael Olusegun Olusanya, he hinted that Greenway International Foundation, is scheming to plant over five million fruit trees in Africa. This he said, they have budgeted one million trees for Ghana trees by 2030.
According to him, the project has so far seen the planting of approximately 600 trees across some selected schools in the country.
Mr. Michael Olusegun Olusanya, noted that the number of trees they can plant in a day would all depend on the level of sponsorship they would receive. It is in this regard we are calling on all and sundry to support this laudable initiative.

“We can even plant more than one million trees if we all come together,” he emphasized.
Mr Andrew Barnes, the Australian High Commissioner who graced the occasion entreated Ghanaians to devise alternative ways that would cut down on the use of plastics.
“Putting items in natural containers like the leaves or paper bags or even going shopping with their own baskets which they could use continuously,” he advised. He also expressed worry about the manner in which waste disposal is being managed in the country.
This he said, the Commission would work closely with the school’s administration to see how best they can help the school with rubbish bins to help foster the sanitation drive.

However, he called for attitudinal change in Ghanaians to help in the fight against sanitation challenges confronting the nation.
