Good, Bad, And Ugly Blasts The One-Constituency-One-Million-Dollar Policy

<br />
The satirical show featuring three beautiful ladies who take turns playing the three roles of good bad and ugly took the president to the cleaners on Monday when they examined the policy from the front page of the Ghanaian Times.<br />
<br />
It began with The Good, played by Ama Bempomaa delivering rave review of the policy and saying it amounted to promises made, promises kept by the president. She went on to praise the decentralization prospects of the policy since it sends money closer to the ground for the execution of local infrastructure projects.<br />
<br />
But The Ugly, who ironically wore NPP colors, was not having any of that. Played by Aphia Gyaamah, The Ugly blasted the one-constituency-one-million policy saying that the policy should have been one-district-one-million to achieve better accountability.<br />
<br />
“How can you say one-constituency-one-million when there is no constituency government in our political system,” Asked Aphia. “Now we have had to set up another bureaucracy such as the northern, middle, and coastal belts manned by people who have no connection to the constituencies to administer the policy,” she added.<br />
<br />
Even more supportive of Aphia’s opposition was a graph she presented which showed a stunning disparity in the number of citizens per constituency. Apparently composed when Ghana had ten regions, the graph showed the average constituency in Greater Accra inhabited by 114,993 people contrasted by the number of inhabitants in the average Upper West Region of 61,615. “How’s this fair,” she asked.<br />
<br />
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is a satirical review of the day’s front page headlines and it airs on Diaspora Network Television (DNT) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8pm and repeated on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 12:30pm.<br />

Barely twenty-four hours to the kick off of the global soccer fiesta in Russia, MultiChoice Ghana has announced an extension of its Contact Centre hours on weekends throughout the World Cup period. As great customer service is a key component of the MultiChoice strategy the extended working hours will afford DStv and GOtv subscribers have adequate support throughout the World Cup.<br />

Making the announcement, Cecil Sunkwa Mills, General Manager, MultiChoice Ghana said “we are continually shaping our business to respond to our customers’ needs and this includes service efficiency. Also on Saturday June 9 and Sunday June 10, the station will premier an exciting Chinese Telenovela titled ‘Let’s Get Married’ at 6pm. All viewers should stay tuned.<br />

The British public service broadcaster as part of filming the journey of business tycoons in Ghana documented the story of Ghanaian beauty brand Shasha Wigs.<br />

In an interview with top Kenyan comedian, Karis, host of the 'Be Your Own Boss' program on BBC, Mrs. Charlotte Dwumoh Asiedu, CEO of Shasha Unisex Salon and Shasha Wigs narrated her small beginnings and how her company manufactures wigs in Accra. She later embarked on a journey with the show host around town to showcase him how the company delivers products to clients.<br />

Celebrity blogger, radio, and TV host Zionfelix real name Adomako Felix who is head of digital marketing at Shasha Wigs explained how online marketing which is the main promotional tool for the company has boosted the sales of the wigs. The Celebrity Ride Wide With Zionfelix show host further revealed why Shasha Wigs mostly employ the services of top Ghanaian celebrities for a photoshoot.<br />

Celebrity makeup artiste, Minalyntouch who is in charge of the company's makeup commented on the importance of makeup to the firm during its photoshoot with celebrities and models to help promote the brand and other activities.<br />

'Be Your Own Boss' is a new program on BBC world service which will start airing soon. Other businessmen BBC will interview in Ghana includes Godfred Obeng Boateng, CEO of A1 bread, Sandrah Ozwald, boss of Saint Ozwald Shoes and few others.<br />

The new strand will deliver up to 20 original and high-impact investigations from across Africa every year.<br />

Nisha Kapur, Commissioning Editor for TV said: “Africa Eye will promote the culture of investigative journalism across Africa and strengthen the skills of African investigative journalists. All of the programmes will be based on in-depth reporting that holds power to account. They will tackle topics that are of intense interest and concern to audiences in Africa. These reports will be produced in a fresh and contemporary style that resonates with young audiences.”<br />
<br />
The new strand is part of the BBC’s commitment to invest in original content for Africa in English, French, Swahili and Hausa languages as part of the expansion of the BBC World Service. Africa Eye will create a network of trained investigative journalists across the continent – within BBC Africa, among the BBC’s partner organizations on the continent. They will also work with independent journalists. Each episode will be 30 minutes to an hour long.<br />
<br />
The first – a co-production between Africa Eye and BBC Pidgin – will look at the cough syrup industry and how Codeine is causing a plague of addiction across Nigeria – hooking millions of young people.<br />
<br />
In an exclusive undercover investigation, Africa Eye, will reveal senior figures in Nigeria’s pharmaceutical industry who are moving their legally produced products via the back door of their factories and into the hands of drug dealers who sell the dangerously addictive, sweet tasting opioid for the price of a bottle of cola.<br />
<br />
With access to Nigeria’s crack anti-drug squads, BBC Pidgin journalist Ruona Meyer, whose brother has struggled with cough syrup addiction, is on a journey to unravel the secrets of the syrup plague….and to expose the criminals behind it.<br />
<br />
Codeine cough syrup can now be bought in the heaving nightclubs of Lagos and on the ancient backstreets of Kano. Three million bottles are drunk every day in Nigeria’s north alone, according to a recent Nigerian government report.<br />
<br />
Adejuwon Soyinka, Editor of the BBC Pidgin who went undercover said, “it’s shocking what we found and how much of an epidemic cough syrup abuse has become in Nigeria. Equally shocking is the sheer size of criminal network involved in the illicit trade.”

Highlife uses the melodic and main rhythmic structures of traditional music but is played with Western instruments, in recent time many pundits have to expound that any musician who cannot play live are not greats and this has compelled many young musicians to reconsider their acts and start collaborating with bands and band groups alike.<br />

It is evident thus far that there have been numerous performance locations throughout the country but. There are regional cultural centres, which serve as the hub of neo-traditional activities.<br />

Major hotels and pubs provide spaces for small combo bands to perform on Friday nights and the weekends. These bands including the Patchbay, Ohia beye ya, The Characters, Kente band, Asa band, Palmwine Ensemble, Safoa band, Dela Botri and Hewale Band, Abizaa Band, Deep Wave and others provide us with great entertainment as the repertoire cut across different genres but try to maintain the organic nature of our highlife music, however most of these bands and groups have started their own projects similar to major artiste and labels but have not been adequately promoted to help open multiple streams of income to improve their sets, they have backed, supported, played and toured with almost every artiste in the country so deserve a lot more encouragement, opportunities and promotion across all the media channels including radio.<br />
